The story behind the images

My name is Mark Mooibroek, I’m 37 years old and I live in the beautiful town of Emmen (Drenthe) with my wife Ilona and our two daughters: Sherren (15) and Daniek (11). In daily life, I work in secondary education as a system administrator and graphic designer. In my free time, I love picking up my camera to capture special moments. For me, photography is the perfect way to express my creativity and truly unwind.

Gezin Mark Mooibroek

At the age of 14, I bought my first digital camera: a Canon PowerShot A60. That was my first introduction to digital photography. I quickly began experimenting with settings to create effects and capture as much detail as possible.

I love capturing tiny details and turning them into unique works of art.

Macro

With my macro lens, I capture the tiniest wonders of nature. Macro photography offers a fascinating glimpse into a world often hidden from the naked eye.

Nature fascinates me in every season. In autumn, colorful leaves and mushrooms provide beautiful scenes, while in spring everything comes back to life — the perfect time to photograph flowers and insects.

Taking a walk with my camera is pure relaxation for me. A moment away from the hustle and bustle, clearing my head, and fully immersing myself in nature.

On Safari at the Zoo

A trip to Africa to spot “the big five,” or a journey to Canada to see a grizzly catch a fish — well, that’s not always in the cards. But with my telephoto lens at the ready, I really enjoy capturing animals in full-frame at the zoo.

Portrait Photography

Alongside my passion for macro photography, I have recently become increasingly captivated by portrait photography. Capturing genuine emotions, a spontaneous smile, or that one moment of pure serenity is something I truly enjoy.

What fascinates me about portraits is that every face tells its own story. Using natural light or playing creatively with shadows, I aim to capture that story in a unique and personal way. Whether it is a playful, candid photo outdoors in nature or an intimate close-up portrait: each image reveals a part of someone’s character.

For me, portrait photography is a beautiful addition to my work because it gets so close to the essence of people. It’s not just about technique, but about the connection and trust between photographer and model. That is what makes every shoot truly special.
